From Elfdreams 7… WIP

The hulking tribal chieftain angrily growled commands. Drolls closed in on the outnumbered Drelves’ positions in the trees and underbrush. All the while Drelvish archers assailed the Drolls and occasionally scored a mortal center shot. Xenn cast a very brief incantation that created thirteen identical images of himself. A second spell produced a translucent shield before each of the thirteen images. Trusting his fate to the Mirror Image and Shield Spells, Xenn stepped from behind the red oak, shouted loudly, and then again conjured. Seeing thirteen Drelvish Spellweavers simultaneously conjuring spooked the Drolls. The wolf-faced enemies stopped and stepped backward.

Red Dragon… from Chalice of Mystery

The cavern was one hundred and fifty feet across and with an
opening to the west directly across from where he stood. The ovoid
area extended about a hundred feet to both the left and right.
A massive red dragon sat upon a pile of treasure on the northern
wall. The dragon slept.
Knuth edged along the far side of the cavern and eventually
reached the far passage. He could see that it extended one hundred
and twenty-five feet and ended in elaborate doors. There was a
passage to the south at fifty feet. He went forward and saw that this
passage extended upward as far as the eye could see. He detected
no activity in the passage. He went on to the doors and listened. He
heard deep voices- male and female, Ice Giant and Red Giant, and
young and old- and could not risk opening the door.
He sneaked back to the cavern. The red dragon stretched and
looked about the cavern. She gulped down a huge titanosteer carcass
in a single bite. The old wyrm sent a chill down Knuth’s spine.
A lesser man would have yielded to the effects of the Fear Spell
emanated by the ancient evil dragon.
Knuth had never looked upon such a formidable foe.
He froze.
He gingerly drank a green potion and minimized his body: smaller
was probably better. The dragon turned rapidly, stared at the
opening where Knuth stood, and sniffed.
Knuth ran as fast as his little legs could carry him away from the
opening. The massive red dragon thundered across the cavern and
looked into the passage.

Warriors… from Chalice of Mystery

Tyllmon looked at Ravenna.
Exeter looked into Ravenna.
Ravenna slowly moved her right thumb over the fingers of her
right hand and flashed a fiery glance at Tyllmon.
There was uneasy silence.
Tyllmon heard Exeter’s summation: “I detect no evil- she poses
no threat to you. Perhaps I only detected her lust for battle. She was
deceitful! She hid her skills of Magick. She has proven herself a
warrior.”

“There seems nothing more to accomplish here. We should
report to the priestess and the sorcerer- we should report everything
to them,” Tyllmon said seriously.
Ravenna smiled.
“Make sure you respect your elders, Prince of Donothor. I am
two hundred years your elder,” the elf taunted.
Tyllmon looked at her graceful form as she walked away. The
elfi sh chain mail armor could not hide her beauty. Ravenna appeared
as a maiden of eighteen. Her red hair blazed when she removed her
helm after the battle.

Rockweiler… from the Chalice of Mystery

The Rockweiler attacked the first dwarf when he reached the
center of the left wall. The wily creature masqueraded as part of the
wall and fi lled the opening to the cave. The beast’s attack revealed
the opening to the cavern behind the boulder-like creature. The
monster was ten feet tall, ten feet wide with stony appendages which
acted as hands and feet. It crushed the unfortunate dwarf!
The creature was slow. It looked like a big boulder with eyes,
arms, and legs.
“What manner of creature is this?” Knarra queried.
The men moved away from the beast. Farlow, one of the more
experienced Rangers in the group, hit the beast with his sword, but
his blade only chipped off a small piece of rock.
Knarra looked perplexed.
“I don’t see the necessity of a Slow Spell,” she mused.
“Watch the opening!” Farlow warned.
An archer fi red an arrow- the arrow bounced off the hulking
creature.
Knarra urged, “Move away from it!”

The priestess called a column of fire from the sky and the flame
struck the Rockweiler but had no effect on the beast.
The men and dwarves retreated down the passage.
Knarra pointed her staff. A bolt of lightning erupted and struck
the creature but had no effect.
Growls came from the opening.
The Rockweiler rumbled toward them.

First words of Elfdreams 8…

The chamber afforded the High Captain of the Rangers of Donothor wasted its opulence on Ravenna Nocerre. The Captain’s quarters filled the western side of the uppermost floor of the donjon of Castle Lyndyn, the seat of government of the Kingdom of Donothor and domicile of the ruling Aivendar family. The donjon towered over the inner ward of the walled city.
